Coronavirus COVID-19 and travel
With the situation constantly changing concerning Coronavirus (COVID-19) and travel, we are updating this post around the clock to update our site and get you the information you need to make the best travel decisions.
At the moment, there are very few places in the world that are deemed safe. The problem isn’t only catching the virus, the main problem is decent medical care if there are complications. As well as infecting others and long quarantine measures.
Airline refund and rebooking policies
No change fees for all travel up to 31 May 2020 with Aer Lingus.
Air Asia are offering provisions to guests who would like to change their travel plans in light of COVID-19 and the entry restrictions imposed by several countries due to the outbreak, subject to terms and conditions.
If you made a flight booking before March 31st, 2020, and you want to cancel it, you can do so with no cancellation fee. You will receive full credit, which you can use towards future travel. This credit is valid for travel before March 31st, 2021. You canook any flight with confidence now, knowing that if the situation with COVID-19 changes, you can adjust your travel plans with Air Canada accordingly.
Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand are suspending all international travel for unaccompanied minors until 30 June 2020, except for those who have already commenced travel and need to return to their primary caregivers or guardians. Please ensure that remaining travel complies with any government restrictions.
Saver Fares booked between 2/27 and 3/31/2020 for travel through February 28, 2021, allow cancellation for a full refund. Nonrefundable First Class or Main Fares, booked between 2/27 and 3/31/2020 for travel through 2/28/2021, are allowed a one time change with no fee or cancellation for a full refund on Alaska Airlines.
All Nipon Airways
Flights to/from airports in Japan (Excluding Flights to/from airports in China) Change of boarding date is allowed “once” within April 20. 2020 with an applicable ticket. Flights to/from airports in China (Including Hong Kong and Macau) Change of boarding date is allowed “once” within June 30. 2020 with an applicable ticket. A refund without fee with an applicable ticket on All Nipon Airways.
Non-Refundable Fare tickets purchased by 3/31/2020 for travel through 1/30/2021, allow a onetime change with no fee before your original departure date with American Airlines.
Austrian Airlines temporarily suspended all regular flight operations.

No change fee applies to new bookings on any route made from 3/3 to 3/31/2020 with British Airways.
Bangkok Airways has cancelled many routes and flights, check their website for the tables.
Cathay Pacific Airways
Cathay is waiving rebooking, rerouting and cancellation fees for tickets booked before 17 March 2020. All new tickets issued between 9 March and 20 April 2020 can be changed unlimited times, for no extra charge.
To provide our passengers a more flexible way to arrange travel plans, China Airlines(CI) and Mandarin Airlines(AE) offer a “Making Changes as You Wish” Program to waive ticket reissue charge for tickets issued from March 14 to April 15, 2020. The waiver is solely applicable on the premise that the ticket reissuance occurs 7 days prior to the departure date of the first unused sector on the ticket. China Southern Airlines
Many flights have been canceled with China Southern Airlines, check their website for an up to date itinerary.
No change fees for all tickets purchased between 3/1 to 3/31/2020 for travel through 2/25/2021 on Delta Airlines.
Easy Jet is operating some flights in order to get passengers home. Check their website to check the latest information.
Customers with tickets issued on/before 31st March who are impacted due to:
- Travel ban: Where there is government notification that prohibits travel
- Travel advisory: General government advisory against non-essential travel
- Quarantine requirements: Mandatory quarantine at origin or destination
- Mandatory lockdown: Countries in which government have issued a mandatory lockdown and customers are therefore unable to reach airport
- Flight cancellation: Flights cancelled by Emirates
Are eligible for Rebooking and Travel Voucher options:
- Rebooking is permitted within the ticket validity without fee, applicable fare difference if any may apply
- Travel voucher for ticket value with a validity of 12 months from date of issue

Ethiopian Airlines are operating regular flights to all of our five gateways in China, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong with the usual supply and demand adjustment.
Etihad Airways is introducing Etihad Credit to give guests the freedom to delay their travel plans by permitting a free cancellation and is offering the original value of their booking to be used as credit towards their next trip.
Fiji Airways Suspended 95% of International Flights in Response to COVID-19 Impact.
Finnair cut capacity by 90% from 1 April but maintains critical air connections for Finland.
Since February 5, 2020, Garuda Indonesia suspended all flight services following the government’s policy in the wake of the rapid spread of the coronavirus and the global emergency status issued by WHO.
Hainan has not resumed flights yet, check their website for their refund and rebooking policies.
Hong Kong Airlines
As far as we can tell, Hong Kong Airlines has cancelled most flights too and from mainland China.
Iberia is issuing vouchers for cancelled flights. Their policies are quite complex, depending on your specific situation and region. Check their website here.
JAL group has adopted a range of necessary precautions against the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus in order to maintain a safe, secured environment for our customers, flight/cabin crews, and other employees.
No change or cancellation fees with Jetblue for all new flight bookings made between 2/27 and 3/31/2020 for travel through 9/8/2020.
You can temporarily change your ticket with no change costs with KLM. And they will always notify you immediately of any new travel restrictions for your transfer and final destination. If you use the KLM app, we will keep you informed 24/7 with push notifications.
Korean Air has reduced or suspended some of its routes. For help with rescheduling, please contact a Korean Air Service Center or the travel agency through which the flights were booked.
Latam has a complex system of exceptions for who can’t and can fly. Check their website for more info. You can reschedule travel dates at no extra cost.
The Lufthansa Group Airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti offer even greater flexibility for your travel plans.
If you hold a ticket for a cancelled or an existing Lufthansa Group flight, you can keep the ticket without having to commit to a new flight date right away. Existing bookings will initially be cancelled, but the ticket and ticket value will remain unchanged and can be extended to a new departure date up to and including 31 December 2020. You can also rebook to another destination. The new flight must be booked until 31 August 2020.
In addition they offer you for every rebooked ticket a discount of 50€ on the ticket prize. Of course rebooking fees will still not be charged, regardless of which fare was booked. Should the rebooked fare be more expensive due to a change of destination (e.g. rebooking from short-haul to long-haul), change of class of travel or similar, an additional payment may be necessary despite the discount.
Malaysia Airlines passengers who are affected will be entitled to a rebooking or refund depending on when you booked your ticket.
If you no longer wish to travel, you can cancel your booking online and apply for reimbursement of your unused ticket. If you made your booking through a travel agency or third-party provider, please contact them directly.

Philippine Airlines are still flying with extra measures taken in order to safeguard passengers and crew. Latest info here.
If you have already booked or planning to book for travel up to 30 June 2020, receive greater flexibility up to 3 days prior to departure by having the option to change your travel date free of charge, or exchange for a future travel voucher.
- Valid for any of Qatar Airways’ published fares only purchased either directly from Qatar Airways or through Travel Agents.
- Change Fees – will be waived if reservations are changed at least 3 days before departure. Fare difference may apply.
- Travel Voucher – Reissue unutilized value for a voucher “To be used for future travel”. This voucher will be valid for one year from its issuance date. Refund penalty shall be waived if cancellations are done at least 3 days before departure.
Qantas has suspended international flights until may. It’s unclear what the Qantas policy is in regards to rebooking and refunds. If you’re affected by cancellations, they should contact you with all your options.
Oman Air has decided that passengers and airline crew who have been in Austria, Belgium, China (People’s Rep.), Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Iran, Iraq, Korea (Rep.), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA in the past 14 days are not allowed to transit and enter Bahrain.
You can re-book your ticket to alternative dates or destinations, or opt to receive a voucher for future travel, valid for one year from its issuance date. This policy applies to all tickets issued anytime until 30 June 2020, for travel on or before the same date.
- If you have booked your ticket though a travel agent, please contact your travel agent to amend your booking or exchange your ticket for a future travel voucher.
- If you have booked your ticket on the qatarairways website or through any of our offices, you can re-book your tickets or exchange your ticket for a future travel voucher by telephoning any of our offices or contact centres.
SAS has cancelled almost all flights on all routes and are offeringing rebooking free of charge.
Singapore Airlines will waive all rebooking fees for tickets issued on or before 15 March 2020, for travel up to 31 May 2020. Customers can cancel their existing flight itineraries, retain the value of their tickets and rebook their travel at a later date, when they are able to firm up their new travel plans. The new flight itinerary should be completed by 31 March 2021.
South African Airways
South African Airways suspends all international and regional flights until the end of May 2020.
SWISS extended their free rebooking period and now offers 50 euros discount.
Southwest will stop flying from Sunday march 22nd. If you are scheduled to travel with Southwest between today and April 30 and would like to rebook, you may change your travel up to 60 days from your original flight date. If you are unsure of your future travel plans, you do not need to take any action. Rest assured, the funds used to pay for this trip will be available for the Customer named on the ticket to use and fly for up to 12 months from the original date of purchase.
Thai is still flying, but many flights to Europe have been cancelled. If you’re a foreigner flying into Thailand, check their website for the rules and regulations.
Turkish Airlines are still operating on some routes but have suspended all flights too and from Europe, China, Israel and others. Check their website for specific information.
United continues to manage the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on our employees and our customers. Due to government mandates or restrictions in place prohibiting travel, they are reducing our international schedule for April.
When you book a flight between 3/3 and 3/31/2020, you can change it for free over the next 12 months.
Virgin Atlantic has suspended international flights. They allow you to rebook your travel up to 30 April 2021 subject to availability and any difference in fare. No change fee applicable. If you rebook to finish travel by 30 June 2020, no difference in fare or change fee will be charged. You can also Reroute your travel to, from or via another destination, up to 30 April 2021. Again, no change fees, but flights are subject to availability and any difference in the fare. They can only rebook flights up to 331 days in advance. So if you’re looking to fly after that, please wait until flights are available.
Virgin Australia has also suspended their international routes. Check their website for refund policies.
Hyatt has expanded free cancellations and suspended award chart changes until next year.
Hilton is waiving all cancellation fees in response to coronavirus concerns.
